OBSTETRICAL APPEAL FUND.

EFFORT

Owing to the threatening weather yesterday morning the committee decided to abandon the garden puvty arranged to he held at the residence of 'Mrs. S. Austin yesterday afternoon and conduct the sale of gifts in the Town Halt supperroom. Disappointment was expressed at the change of venue for the afternoon broke beautifully line. There was a good allendanee at the Town Hail, however, and all the goods were quilted and a most enjoyable social time was spent. Deck (pioils (won by Miss StevenStUll ) and a nail driving competition (won by Mrs. .J. Thomson) created keen competition and much amusement. A dainty afternoon tea. wits dispensed. The committee (Mos(l.ames Perrenu, S. Austin, .1. K. Honihlow, W. E. limber and W. Smith) worked like trojans and were assisted by Mrs. R. Bryant, Mrs. Cecil Robinson, Mrs. Sian, timber, Misses Sewell, Howe mid Elsie Ember. The committee desire to specially thank Messrs Stan Austin, Perrenu, Homblow, Poole, (!. !•'. Smith and Rev. W. IT. Nicholas also Mr. .J. Purcell tor gifts of vegetables. Among those present were several lady visitors from Palmerston N. All who had assisted in any way were thanked by Mr. llornblow on behalf of the committee.

The receipts were: —Cake stall, Cl (>/1<); produce, £3 0/7; door, £3 3/-; competitions, £.l 8/1; cash donations, Cl 7/0; making a total of Cl 3 15/11. Asked how the appeal was progressing, the committee stated that they were determined that the Foxton district effort was not going to lag behind the average, of any oher district and in this connect ion. the public was responding most generously.
