The Surf Club's euchre party on Tuesday evening was a great success, it toojc scveuteeu tables to aceonuuodate ilte players. Mr. llodge, architect oi the W'auganui Education Hoard, accompanied by Mr. Moore, architect or Hie Taranaki Board, visited a number oi the schools in this district to-day. Mr. Moore was particularly struck with the appearance and lay-out oi' the local District High School. Wo were shown this morning a very intricate and interesting piece oi handiwork designed and completed by Mr. L. Shailer, oi Poxlon Beach, in the form oi a draught board with an intricately designed surround, the whole thing being composed oi a variety oi .New Zealand woods carefully pieced aud laid together. The work measures 110 x 20 inches. The woods used in the design consist oi totara knot and kauri for the draught hoard, with totara knot, honeysuckle, blueberry, silver birch, red birch, silver pine, kawaka, matai, rata, rimu, worked in a definite geometric<ii design as a border. The work has not yet received its final coat of polish, but when this is done it will probably be placed on view in a local business premises.

About eighty years ago the late Rev. .James Duncan received from Scotland a complete Communion set and Baptismal howl. The vessels were of English pewter. Mr. Duncan, however, did not use the vessels. 'Pile Communion set was given lo the late Rev. Alex. Doutl, of SI. Andrew’s, Palmerston North, hut as far as is known was not used. The baptismal howl was a gift by -Miss Duncan to Hie Rev. Jus. Aitken. It has been decided to collect these vessels, which will be exhibited in the local church on Sunday. The Communion vessels, we are informed, will he presented to the Presbyterian Assembly collection and the baptismal bowl will be handed over to the local church for future use.
