LOCAL PORT AND SUPPORT.
ASSISTANCE FROM POULTRY FARMERS.
WJien addressing the gathering of poultry farmers at last night’s meeting of the Alanawatu Egg Producers’ Association, the President (Air. P. C. Raikes) mentioned the fact that when a proposition was afoot in the district to acquire a new boat for the Poxton trade a number of poultry farmers went to merchants in the town and sought their assistance in acquiring the boat. Some of these men put several hundreds of pounds into the venture and the poultrymen gave them an undertaking that they would consider them when purchasing their grain. Jle hoped that they would keep faith with these men as the boat had been purchased even if unfortunately:the boat was not working very satisfactorily. The port was still open and that was the main point as while the port of Poxton was open grain, etc., could be procured much cheaper in this district than if the poultry fanners were compelled to get their supplies Hi rough Wanganui.
