Mr. E. Healey, of Sydney, is on a visit to Foxton and is staying with Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Easton. .Miss N. Woods has returned home after an extended holiday in the north.
Airs. €. Cronquest, of Shannon, is spending a few days holiday in I ‘oxton.
Lord and Lady Bledisloe are expected to arrive in Wellington on Wednesday next. Mr. W. Hart has returned to Foxton after having spent an enjoyable holiday in the Auckland and Motorua districts. The friends of Mr. W. E. De Bidder will regret to laern that he is still, suffering from the effects of his recent accident and as yet has not been able to leave his home.
Captain Hayes, of the Marine Department, was again in Foxton during last week end in connection with his research work relative to the whitebait.
Mrs. Rawlinson, who has been in business in Shannon for many years has disposed of her confectionery shop and taken up her residence at Paiaka. 'The friends' of Airs. J. YV. Walker, of Thynne Street, who recently underwent an operation in the Palmerston North Hospital will be pleased to learn that she is now making good progress towards recovery.
The Hon. 11. L. Michel, M.L.C., I hissed n way ;>l Hokitika, on Tuesday, at the age of 72. The late Mr. Michel was horn at Newcastle, N.S.W., and came to New Zealand as n boy. He was a member of the Hokitika Borough Council from 15,35 till 11)03 and Aiayor for various periods totalling in all 14 years. He was chairman of the lirst Charitable Aid Board of the district, in 1885, and served on the ITokitikii Harbour Board, tile Westland Education Board and the High School Board off Governors. For 27 fears he was captain of the Eire Brigade, he became president of the Fire Brigade’s Association and was largely responsible for legislation iii this connection. He was also prominent in Freemasonry, becoming superintendent of the Westland and Nelson district and Pro-Grand Master of the Grand Lodge. On the death of Richard Seddon, he contested the Westland seat, in 1906, but was defeated 'by Air. T. E. Y. Seddon. He contested the Grey seat on the death of Sir Arthur Guinness, and headed the poll on the first ballot, but was defeated by Mr. P. C. Webb on the second .In 1918 he was appointed to the Legislative Council.
