HEMP MARKET.
FEBRUARY GRADING RETURNS.
The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow, and stripper blips for the month of February have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: Ports G.F. H.F. L.F. C. Auckland 204 822 " 489 48 Wellington 128 1121 713 216 Foxton 36 648 257 154 /Pieton 81 33 58 7 Dunedin 99 162 10 Pt. Chalmers Bluff 9 216 424 238 Thirty-five bales at Auckland, I 335 at Wellington, 42 at Foxton, 19 at the Bluff were rejected. Five bales at Foxton were condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of hist year being given in parenthesis: Fine nil (37), good fair 557 (1039), high fair 3002 (3765), low tair 1963 (2084), common 663 (5'62), rejected 431 (335), condemned 5 (1), a total of 6621 bales as against 7823 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 1201 hales.
flic number of bales graded at each port was Auckland 1598, Wellington 2513, Foxton 1142, Picton 179, Dunedin 271, Ft. Chalmers 12, Bluff 906.
The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded:— Forts Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 25' 447 135 Wellington 28 401 155 Foxton io 174 35 Pic ton 42 Bl uff Dunedin Thirty-two bales at Auckland, 44 at Wellington, 6 at Foxton, three at the Bluff were condemned. The following shows the number ot bales in each grade, the number tor the corresponding period of last \cai- being given in parenthesis:— Ist grade 105 (470), 2nd grade 1340 (1294), 3rd grade 475 (573), condemned 85 (101), a total of 2011 bales as against 2498 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 487 bales.
The number of bales graded at each port was:—-Auckland 639, Y\ T ellington 028, Foxton 225, Picton •'2, Bluff 369, Dunedin 108.
Stripper Tow:—Eleven bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade. Twenty-nine bales at Wellington and 76 at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. A total number of 116 bales ns against 263 bales graded the name period last year, showing a decrease of 147 bales. St ripper Slips:—Five bales at the Bluff and 11 at Dunedin were graded 2nd grade. Ninety-six bales at the ‘Bluff and 47 at Dunedin were graded 3rd grade. Seventeen
holes at the Bluff wore condemned. The total number graded was 176 bales as against 151 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 25 bales.
