FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was held in the secretary’s office yesterday, presided over by the chairman (Mr. J. Linklater, M.P.) Also present were Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., B. Edwards and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs M. E. Perreau and A. J. Kellow (Feilding). FINANCIAL STATEMENT.

The financial statement was read as follows:- —

Receipts:—Cash in hand 1/10/29 £393 2/9, pilotage £lO3 18/-, river lighting £35 10/-, wharfage, inward £749 17/9, do., outward £IOO 2/0, ship’s dues £ll 10/4, rents, Round Bush £45, Te Wharangi £25 12/-, shed site £0 10/-, septic tank site 10/-, road contributions £SO 1/1, miscellaneous £55 1/0, debit, balance £785, a total of £2534 10/10.

Expenditure:: —Overdraft as at 1/10/29 £IOO7 0/2, salaries £350 18/4, kerosene etc. £22 1/-, maintenance and repairs £3O 8/8, plant etc. £OO 15/0, office and general expenses £43 8/7, handling etc. £370 4/2, miscellaneous £94 0/2, travelling expenses £7 10/-, insurance £SO 4/3, interest £420, a total of £2534 10/10.

Mr. Nash asked if it was correct that the Board was £785 to the “had.”

Mr. Nash: There are many things we would like to see carried out ? hut unfortunately we haven’t the money to spend and must keep our expenditure down as much as possible. The statement was received without further comment. Accounts amounting to £192 12/5 were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From Mrs. E. J. Krouse, asking tor the refund of insurance money held in trust by the Board, pending the re-erection of the dwelling destroyed by tire a few years ago. — Agreed to. From the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Co., Ltd., enclosing an application to become a ledger-holder. — Received. From G. E. Johnson, offering the sum of £3 4/G for a grazing license over the Harbourmaster's paddock.—Agreed to. From Messrs Gouch, Couch and Hamer Ltd., advising that they are unable to supply a morse signalling key suitable for 230 volts. —Received. Secretary to communicate with engineer to Manawatu-Oroua Power Board on the matter. •From the Wanganui Board, advising procedure relative to sick pay to employees.—Received. From Messrs W. H. Gunning and Co., Ltd., Shannon, forwarding a claim for 2/0 being shortage in weight of two hags of sugar re-. (eived through the port. —After an explanation by the secretary no action was taken.

From Messrs Hodder and Tolley (Feilding), asking that the charge of 3/- per ton he permanently fixed Lor all their wheat re ship’s sling .into railway trucks as it was not always possible to get 400 sacks in ( lie shipment. —Held over until next meeting:. From Mr. H. Osborne, complaining about certain matters relative to shipping.—Received. Airs. E. L. Christian was granted a license to erect a camp .in the School Reserve. LIFE-SAVING REEL.

The chairman reported that a new line had been put on the lifesaving reel aL the beach. Quotations were received in con--I,ection with a new reel and it was decided to leave the matter of puri base of same in the hands of the secretary to arrange with the chairman of the Beach Improvement Committee.

, REPAIRS TO WHARF. The secretary reported that during the past fortnight, together with the storeman, he bad effected certain work on the old railway wharf in the nature of supplying hardwood timber to close in bolt-heads that were projecting from a number of the piles. Since the work was completed no complaints had been heard so presumably the work had been satisfactory. The secretary suggested that certain tools be purchased for the carrying out of repairs in the, future as during the las tjob he had bad to borrow the necessary gear from the Railway Department. The matter was, however, referred to the local committee for consideration.
