BOWLING

GALA AT LEVIN

A gathering of the howling clans of the district took place at Levin on Saturday afternoon, when the Manawatu Centre sent to the Leviu Bowling Club’s green eight rinks from Palmerston Clubs to compete against the same number from the i labs in the southern portion of its district! With altogether 64 players engaged and a fair-sized party of spectators, the grounds presented a lively scene, and, the weather and green being perfect, the occasion was one of the most enjoyable in the history of the Levin club. The result of the afternoon’s play was that Manawatu defeated Horowhenua in the aggregate by 169 points to 14(1, winning 6ve games and losing two, while one was halved.

Two rinks from Foxton attended the gala and the games they participated were as follows: — Foxton (Ross) Hi v. Northern (Fenwick) 1. Palmerston (Skoglund) 11 v. Foxton (Woods) 9. In the capacity of host, the Levin Chili did the honours exceedingly well and the ladies were responsible for providing a sumptuous afternoon tea.

At the conclusion of play, the Levin president (Mr. C. Sherwood) addressed the gathering, welcoming the howlers and in doing so expressed the hope that such visits would be made annual ones; that the next such contest would be played at Foxton or Shannon, and that a return visit would be paid to Palmerston; probably the combined clubs of this district could fill about •fourteen rinks for this purpose. Air. J. O’Shea, replied on behalf of the Manawatu Centre.

A ENSUE SHIELD' MATCH TOMORROW.

Two rinks representing Palmersi o North Club will visit Foxton to-morrow to try conclusions with the holders of the Ainslie Shield. Local players are requested to bring a basket to assist with the ea.ering arrangements.
