A NEW RELIGION.
Auckland, February 7
With a girl in his arms, a man walked ashore at Thorn’s Bay, mar Taka puna, yesterday. It was not an exciting beach rescue. The girl had been baptised as a member of the Revival Fire of Healing Mission. Seventeen were baptised, including one man. The others were women and children.
As a rough sea was running, the baptisms were performed with some difficulty, the leader holding each one down as a wave rushed past, then assisting her back to the shore. The ceremony attracted considerable notice.
“We are British Israelites, but not the long-haired variety,” explained the leader. <c We are not ashamed of our faith, but we ao not like undue publicity.” He said the sect believed in a straight-out Gospel and healing by faith.
