BIGAMY CASE.

Wellington, February 7,

In the Supreme Court, James \\ illiam Hudd pleaded guilty to a < barge of bigamy and a charge of making a false declaration of marriage in 1908.

It. was alleged that having married at Croydon, England, in 1915, lie went through a form of marriage with Tda Browning in May, 1927.

Accused’s defence was lie fho light his wife was dead.

The relations of the girl Browning with one Frederick James Harris, a cabinetmaker, whom his Honour classed as one of the frankest witness he had seen for a long time, was a prominent feature of the case. Harris, under c-ross-examin-a I ion, sa id he gave the bride away lo Hudd, knowing he was -married, that he had stayed in Christchurch with the girl as man and wife and to a suggestion that he was infatuated with her, lie said he had been.

Accused was found not guilty of bigamy but guilty of making a false statement.
