LOCAL COMPETITORS’ SUCCESS AT PEILRTNG.

A number of local swimmers competed with a fair measure of success at the Eeilding Club’s annual swimming carnival on Tuesday evening. W. Ilirini retained possession of the Rangitikei Cup which he won last year and was roundly anplauded for his effort. Events in which local competitors were successful were as follows: —

Wen’s 50yds. handicap:—Second heat: G. Shaw, osec. 2; fifth heat: R. Ilirini llsee., 1. Time 39sec. Final: R. Hindii 1. Time 35 2-ssee.

Rangitikei .Club Cup, 100 yards: W. Hirini 1, G. Hirini 2. Time 69

In the race for Flying Squadrons, teams of four, 200 yards, G. lliiiini had the misfortune to collide .with the finishing hoard, striking his head sharply which temporarily stunned him. He was quickly removed from the water and rendered every assistance completely recovering after a short while.

TERRACE END CARNIVAL HANDICAPS.

The following are local swimmers handicaps for this evening’s carnival in the Terrace End baths, Palmerston North:—

Men's 50yds.: W. Harrison, ser.; G. W. and .T. Hirini, lsec.; F. Burns, R. Ball and G. Shaw, 2sec.; P. Hirini. 3sec.: R. Reay, 7see. Boys’ 50yds.: S. Bills, fisoe.; L. Rankin, Ssec. Manawatu Centre, 220yds. championship: W l . Harrison and W. Hirini have entered. Harrison is the present holder of this championship. Men’s 100yds.: W. and J. Hirini, ser.; P. Hirini, 4 sec.; R. Reay, 13 see: Foxton has entered A and B teams in the Flying Squadron race. The following have entered for the open dive: —Rills, Rankin and R. Ball. CARNIVAL FIXTURES. The following are the carnival fixtures for Clubs throughout the district: — February 0: Terrace End. February 12: Apollo Club. Fobmarv 14: Pahiatua. February 19: Manawatu Centre Carnival. February 22: Dannevirke second Carnival. February 20: Royal Life Saving Society. March 1: Foxton.
