WOMAN ENTOMBED
FEVERISH ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. Oamarn, January 23. It was reported to-night that a fall occurred this afternoon in a coal-mine on Dr. Matheson’s property at Kurow. It is reported that the doctor’s wife is in the mine. Men from the Waitaki hydro works arc feverishly engaged clearing the debris and medical aid is standing by. Additional' advice from Knrow states that Mrs. Matheson took afternoon lea to the miners at the mouth of the mine. She then entered the mine alone, at which time the-fall oeeuiired. At a late hour the rescue work was being carried on, but. it is hampered by further falls. An entrance was made to the mine through an ah’shaft to the interior side of the fall, hut there Was no sign .of Mrs. Matheson. Therefore little hope is entertained of her recovery alive.
