YOUTH CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER.

Christchurch, January 10. In the Magistrate’s Court to day, Charles Robert Gray, the younger of two brothers, who have admitted lire armies, pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder Edward Hammond on July 10. He pleaded guilty to committing- burglaries at Mr. Hammond’s shop on .July 10 and -July 21, Mr. Hammond, in evidence, said: “I have no doubt at all that the man in the dock is the man.” In a statement made by Gray to the police, he said: “I got some ammunition from the shop and was getting other goods when Hammond came in. 1 shot him in the .back, using- the pistol 1 stole from the museum.” Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
