MANAWATU RETAINS HAWKE CUP. , After the first two Avickets had put on 07 runs on Saturday, it was thought that Poverty Bay might come near the 278 runs required to Avin the HaAvke Cup match. Hoavever, the Avet wicket began to dry rapidly under the influence of sun and Avind and was exactly to Gallichan’s liking. The slow lefthander skittled the remaining wickets to emerge Avith the good average of six for 30 runs. Incidentally, he performed a fgat rarely seen in representative cricket —the hat trick 1 . ■. Poverty Bay could only reach 121, the last eight Avickets falling for 24 runs. Manawatu thus retained the trophy by 156 runs. ‘ * .*
