The race resulted as follows — Miss M. Barron (Foxton) 1 Miss J. Muirray (Athletic) 2 Miss K. Callinan (Canterbury) 3 Also started: Miss C. Millar (Wjellington), J. Wilson (Wellington), E. Blatherwidk (Wellington), E. Sharp (Wellington), E. Hoyle (Napier). , . . - Miss . Barron made the most ox ar. excellent start, and won well in a splendid finish in spite of strong opposition from Miss Murray. -Miss Callinan was close up. Miss Hoyle, who ‘got away well, faded somewhat over the last forty yards. She wase fourth. Time 12 4-ssec. Commenting on the events the “Post” says:— 1 “It was abundantly clear from the performances in the ladies’ events that the Dominion has some very fine young sprinters. Miss Callinan, who has been running very well in Christchurch, showed that she is in the first class. She Avon the 75 yards handicap, and was second in the 100 yalrds handicap. In the principal event in the ladies’ section, howeveri—the 1.00 yards scratch invitation —she was beaten by Miss M. Barron, the present holder of the Wellington provincial title, and Miss J. Murray (Athletic) in a close finish. Miss Barron was very quickly into her stride, gaining an excellent 'start, and withstood a very strong challenge by Miss Murray, a consistently good performer this sea- . son, who possibly. will be a serious contender for championship honours. Miss Murray was also second to Miss Callinan in the 75 yards event.”
