MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held in the Board’s office on Thursday evening. Those present were: Mi’. J. Chrystall (chairman), Trustees W. E. Barber, R. Bryant, B. G. Gower and D. Purcell.
|The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
IOORiRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows :
From the Department of Internal Affairs, re Land Drainage and River Protection Bill.—Received. From the Land and Income Tax Department, re £2OOO loan. —Received. . .
From the Public Works Department, re subsidy on Newth’s bank. —Received. ' From the Public Wlorks Department, re flood gates loan.—Received.
From J. iS. Cameron, re letter from Messrs Innes and Oakley.
GENERAL.The foreman’s repojit was adopted and he was instructed that after completing the cleaning of Langley’s North drain, to proceed with the deepening of portion of Kari North drain from Mile drain road to junction with Walls’ outlet, and that he engage a man to help him with the work.
It was resolved that Mjr. Bond, County Engineer, be to furnish plans and specifications for two vertical doors at the Main Drain exactly similar to the vertical at present in the Main Drain, and estimate of cost of same; also that Mr. Bond |he asked to supply plans and specifications for widening the Main Drain, starting at a point approximately one mile from the river, where the drain narrows to 30 feet, up to the junction with the Diagonal drain, the proposal being to widen the drain on either side by 5 feet, to its present depth, and estimate of cost.
The Clerk was instructed to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs, acknowledging receipt of the Land •Drainage and River Protection Bill and say that the Board would consider same and reply later.
Trustee W. E. Barber detailed results of his interview with , Mr. Ronayne of the Public Works Department, the Minister he was unable to see as he was away. He said All’. Ronayne told him he could do nothing without plans and an engineer’s estimate, not for his own information, hut for the information of those higher up. The Oenk was instructed to send !o J. S. Cametron a copy of letter received fromi Messrs "Innes and Oakley. - . ' *1;.
CLERIC’S RESIGNATION. The 'Clerk’s resignation was accepted with regret and Mr. Garnet Fraser was appointed Clerk and Treasurer as from the Ist of February, 1930, and the Board decided to place on record its hearty appieciation of the faithful services rendered by the Clerk during a pe - riod of eight years. Trustee B. G. Gower said he l orry they were going to lose the services of their Clerk. He had, he thought, been longer connected v.'ith Mr. Fraser ■ than any of the Trustees in local body work. They had been together for some eight • years, he as Mayor, and Mr. Fraser us Town 'Clerk, and,- during the ii hole of that time their (relations were most cordial, and work done ' by the Clerk was most satisfactory. Mr. Chrystall said he joined with Air. Gower in ihis complimentary remarks and felt sure that Mr. Garnett Fraser would give equal ■ a tisfaction. ■ v . TREASURER’S REPORT, / The' treasurer (Mr. A. Fraser) reported that the balances-at the Bank of-'N.Z. and the' P. 0.5.8. showed credits of £474 11/3 and £62 respectively. The separate account balances were as follows:—Cr. balance general a/c., . £317 1/2; cr. balance interest a/e,, £157 19/1; and cr. balance worker’s dwelling loan, £62 15/4.‘ Since the last'meeting £791 5/8 was received and made up by Govelrntnent subsidy on Newth’s bank, £120; general rate, £533 7/4, and special rate, £137 18/4. The rates still outstanding were, general rate, £27 3/1 and special rates, £3. Accounts amounting *to £46 0/9 were passed for payment. •'*’ FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman (Mir. - T. A. Robinson) reported that from November 14th to December 11th he had cleaned a further 40 chains of Langley’s north drain and that v- ' there wa's 8 chains more to be done to complete the drain of 87 chains.—'Adopted.
