At the local Police Court this .morning before Messrs J. K. Hotrnblow and D. Ogilvy J’s.P., James Gallway was charged 'by the police with drunkenness and disohdlerly conduct and with assaulting Constable Owen while in the execution of his duty. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges. Constable Owen stated that accused arrived in Pox ton by train last night. He was then under the influence of liquor. He brought a dog, which got away from him. This seemed to excite him. He was ejected from a local hotel and caused a sensation in Main Street by his conduct. Witness ordered him to go away. The warning seemed to have the effect of maddening accused who struck the constable and a struggle ensued. With the assistance of Mr. W. Neville, traffic inspector, the accused was handcuffed, but continued to be violent. The accused had been convicted for similar offences elsewhere which were disclosed from the list produced.
Accused was convicted and discharged on the first icharge and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour on the second' charge. The Bench thanked Mr. Neville for the assistance he rendered the constable and Constable Owen said he desired also to personally thank Mt. Neville.
