FOXTON FIRE BOARD.
QUARTERLY MEETING
The quarterly meeting: of the Foxton Fire Board was held in the secretary’s office last night, presided over by Mr. A. H. Gierke (chairman). There were also present: Messrs J. K. Hornblow, John Ross, M. E. Perreau, and C. J. Gray and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea). CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was rea<L from the Chamber of Commerce favourably commenting upon the brigade’s prompt turn out at a recent incipient hire. —'Received.
From District Public Trustee, re investing sinking fund. It was decided to inform the present capital expenditure sinking fund commissioners that fresh arrangements had been made whereby the Public Trustee libs been appointed sole commissioner. The Taihape Borough Council wrote thanking the Board for information relative to the formation of. a Fire Board.
Accounts totalling £7B 13/8 were passed for payment.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPOR T,
The brigade superintendent (Mr. 11. J. Reid) reported as follows: — “During the quarter the brigade strength has been 15 men and one messenger, total 16. \
“Fires: —During the period under review there has been one call to a minor outbreak in the railway engine sheds. This was quickly dealt with, the water pressure being good. Damage nil. “Practices: —During the quarter 12 practices have been- held —the average attendance being 12.3. “Equipment:—The engine, hose and equipment are all in good order.
“Social: —Dining-the' quarter a team from. the brigade was successful in wresting the Coley Billiard Shield from the Feilding Brigade. • “Radio Set: —The radio set has been installed in the social room and is keenly' appreciated by the members who wish to thank the Board for its donation towards the purchase of same. “Foam Extinguisher:—l beg to suggest that the provision of foam extinguisher be included in . next year’s estimates. This apparatus is very \ necessary for dealing with oil and benzine fires.
“Electrically Operated Syren:— With the installation of the electrically operated syren the brigade’s answer to fire-calls would be more expeditious and prompt and I would recommend that this matter be kept in mind for action next year.
“Season’s Greetings:—On behall of the brigade and all those connected with it I beg to tender you the season’s greetings and good wishes.”
Arising out of the report it was decided to empower the Wellington members to make enquiry re cost of foam extinguisher and to finalise purchase of electrically operated syren. Other routine matters were dealt with and the season’s greetings exchanged. BRIGADE ENTERTAINED. At the "conclusion of the meeting, the Board members entertained the brigade at Walls’. Among those present -were also Ors. Barron, Fred. Robinson and the Town •clerk (Mr. Trueman). Mr. Clerke presided and expressed the Board’s pleasure in meeting the brigade socially. 1 He also referred to the efficiency of the brigade and the splendid manner in which it co-operated with the Board.
The Mayor (Mr. Perreau) also endorsed the chairman’s eulogy. The following toasts were honoured: “The King,” ‘Fire Board,” proposed by Cr. Barron and responded to by Mir. A. Walk, brigade secretary ; “Borough Council,” proposed by Mr. J. K. Hornblow and responded to by Ors. Ross, Rangiheuea, and Robinson; “Press,” proposed by Mr. Rangiheuea. • During the evening several entertaining items were contributed and the season’s greetings, exchanged.
