NO “TALKIES” FOR FOXTON.
t -♦ COUNCIL CONSIDERS COST PROHIBITIVE.
During the past month the Western Electric “Talkie” Co. has been iloing its best to persuade, the Town Hall management to instal “Talkies” in the local theatre and at last night’s Borough Council meeting lengthy particulars were submitted to tii o meeting relative to the installation. The cost was also lengthy and the proposal did not meet with favour by the “(City Fathers.”.
Cr. Barron suggested the leasing of the hall to the Company as the only means of having “Talkies” in Foxton.
The Clerk pointed out, however, that the people would then have to pay for their amusement.
Cr. Barron: Well, they .pay to vo elsewhere.
Cr. Cowley considered the Council should leave well alone. Tho hall was now on a paying footing and nowhere in New Zealand could people get cheaper pictures. The correspondence was received and the .discussion dropped.'
