HEMP MARKET.

OCTOBER GRADING RETURNS,

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow, anil stripper slips for the month of October have been issued by the Depratment of Agriculture as follows:

Ten bales at Auckland, 24fi> at Wellington, s(i at Foxton, 3 at Dunedin, 48 at the Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Fine, nil (36); good fail*, 279 (202); highfair 2384 (2066), low fair, 2086 (1547); (common, 681 (495); rejected, 363 (112); condemned, nil (1); a total number of--5793 bales as against 4450 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 1343 bales.

'The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1131, Wellington 2276, Foxton 1442, Picton 45, Dunedin 126, Bluff 773. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded:—

Ten bales at Auckland and 39 at Wellington were condemned. The following* shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Ist grade, 21 (166); 2nd grade, 1147 (670); 3rd grade 647 (258); condemned, 49 (114); a 'total of 1864 bales as against 1208 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 656 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port, was: —Auckland 370, Wellington 563. Foxton 502, Picton 20, Bluff 409. Stripper Tow. —Forty-four bales at Wellington were graded 2nd grade, a total of 44 bales as against 47 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 3 bales. Stripper Slips:—(Sixty-four bales at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade, 171 were graded 3rd grade, and 9 bales Were condemned. The total number graded was 1244 bales as against 64 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of ISO bale#.
