WOMEN TEACHERS
DIFF'ERENTIATKMv,, QUESTION.
Elimination of tbeMprinciple of differentiation })etwpen 'male and female school teachers was urged by a deputation froip the Women Teachers’ Association, which waited upon the Minister of Education (lion. H. Atrnore) at Wellington yesterday.
The Minister In reply said that a new system of grading was at present under consideration. He believed it had proved very effective elsewhere, and lie thought it would remove a lot of the present difficulties so far as salaries were concerned. Tn regard to women headtea chershiips, lie said the .'Department had hot a great deal of power in the matter. Dealing with a request. that 1 salaries should he paid according” to efficiency, lie thought that, was quite a legitimate aim, and he. was prepared to do what he could in the matteir. He did hot think he could agree to a request that there should be no discrimination between married and single women in the matter of appointments. There was a growing f eeling against allowing a married woman whose husband was at work to compete in The educational labour market.
