AUGUST GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of August have been issued by the Department of Agrirulture as follows: — -—- Ports G.F. H.F. L.F. Auckland 142 124 131 149 Wellington 1 459 1 208 83 Foxton 28 266 246 Bluff Lyttelton Waikuku
One bale at Auckland was graded fine. Twenty-eight bales at Auckland, 94 at Wellington, 42 at Foxton, and seven at the Bluff were rejected. Two bales at the Bluff were condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number lor the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:— Fine (nil), good fair 171 (173), high fair 981 (1243), low fair 805 (738), common 404 (231), rejected 171 (50), condemned 2 (nil), a total of 2535 hales as against 2435 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 100 bales.
The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 575, Wellington 845,. Foxton 582, Bluff 409, Lyttelton 104, Waikuku 20.
The following shows the detailed particulars of tow graded:—■ Ports ' Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 26 78 47 Wellington Foxton —i 86 14 Bluff Lyttelton Waikuku Thirteen bales at Auckland, 18 at Wellington, and six at the Bluff were condemned.
The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the numb,?* for the corresponding period last year being given in parenthesis:— Ist grade 26 (69), 2nd grade 502 (397), 3rd grade 189 (315), condemned 37 (iff), a total of 754 bales as against 787 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 33 bales.
The numbelr of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 164, Wellington 229, Foxton 100, Bluff 123, Lyttelton 6, Waikuku 132. Stripper Tow: —Thirty-two bales at Wellington were graded 2nd grade, a total number of 32 bales as against nil last year. Stripper Slips: —One hundred and four bales at the Bluff were graded 3rd grade, a total number of 104 bales as against 53 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 51 bales.
