BURGLAR SURPRISED

A DESPERATE STRUGGLE,

Christchurch, Sept. 6

The proprietor of a Spreydon fruit and confectionery business, Mr. F. Good, had a desperate struggle with two men whom he surprised attempting to enter his shop. Prior to closing up he had seen the two men in the backyard. He asked them what they were doing, and they replied that they were looking for a lavatory. Mr. Good told them that they had no right there, and, apologising, they went away. At 9.30 o’clock, Mr./Good closed his shop, and went to his house across the road. He could not re«t, how-, ever, and before going- to bed he returned to the backyard of the shop, and was suddenly attacked. He fought hard, and • gradually overpowered his assailant. While Hie struggle was going on, Mr. Good vaguely noticed another man on a stepladder leading up to a fanlight giving access to a kitchenette. This man came down and attacked Mr. Good from behind, the three of them falling to the ground. Mr. Good was kicked in ’ the neck, and was partially knocked out, and his assailants made off. Detectives visited the scene and took'finger-prints from) a. window sill and the stepladder.
