FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Foxton Tennis Club was held on Thursday evening presided over by Mr. L. C. Bryant (President). NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were elected:— Mr. A. B. MeCorkindale, Misses Allen and Frizzel and Mrs. R. O. Hornblow. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET The report and balance-sheet wore read as follows: “Your committee has pleasure in submitting to you the annual report and balance-sheet. The pastseason has been a very successful one as regards play on the local couirts, but unfortunately only one inter-club match was played. In this match Shannon were suecessful by 14 sets to 10 sets. Several of the local players took part in a tournament arranged by the Levin Club, two local players reaching as far as the semi-final in the men’s doubles. “The condition of the courts during the season was very good, but there is still a great deal of work £o <be done .in improving the condition of the base lines. “Finance: —The financial position of the Club has undoubtedly improved. The liabilities have been considerably reduced and shows that expenditure during the past season was considerably curtailed. The mortgage on the Club property which was 3 years ago at £l5O is now reduced to £IOO, there being £2O paid off the principal during the season. “It is (with regret that we have to record the death of Mr. Wlm. Ross, who for many years was a vice-president of the Club. “In conclusion, your committee, in retiring from office, desire to thank the members for their support and assistance during the past season, and wish the incoming committee success and prosperity for the next season.” In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the President said that the Club had progressed during the past season. It had commenced the year with a credit balance of 8/11 and ended the season with £l7. Taking everything 'into consideration the Club was approximately £3O better off now than it was this time last year. The balance-sheet was as follows : Receipts.— Balance 31/8/28, 8/11; donations, £4 14/-; subs., £46 11/6; afternoon tea, £2 12/-; shop day, £lO 5/1; 'miscellaneous, £4; a. total of £6B 17/6. Expenditure.—Maintenance, £24 6/3; mortgage, £23 15/3; miscellaneous, £3 16/-; balance at bank, £l7.

The Club’s assets are as follows: —Property, £250; outstanding subs., £2l 16/-; cash in bank, £l7. Liabilities.— Mortgage, £100; outstanding accounts, £25 15/1; excess of assets over liabilities, £163 0/11. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron: Francis Robinson Esq.; president. Mr. L. C. Bryant; vicepresidents: Messrs F. iC. Hay, J. Lifiklater, M.P., J. K. Hornblow, Dr. Wyllie, Rev. Walton, F. A. Mason, W. E. Barber, R. McMurray, S. H. Poole, M. E. Perreau, M. B. Bergin, J. Newton, J). R. (Ogilvy, E. J. Jackson, B. G. Gower; secretary: Mr. A. B. MeCorkindale; treasurer: Mr. W. Roach; auditor: Mi’. Wm. Trueman; committee: Messrs W. Ross, T. Chipper, O. Doel, K. Hint) i, and Procter, Mrs. L. C. Bryant, Mrs. Doel, Misses 11 Denton, M. Stevenson, Neylon, Haydock; match committee: Messrs L. C. Bryant, C. Procter, T. Chipper; grounds committee: Messrs L. C. Bryant, C. Procter, T. Chipper, K. Ilirini; delegate to M.L.T.A.: Mr. R. MeMurray. The committee’s action in arranging a new mortgage in connection with the Club’s property was endorsed. Mr. Wm. Trueman was accorded a vote of thanks for his services as a uclitor. It was decided that the President and treasurer operate on the Club’s account. It was decided to alter the date of the annual meeting to the first week in July. A votfe of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
