FOXTON-PALMERSTON BRANCH RAILWAY.

There is no truth in the rumour that the Foxton-Palmerston branch line is to be closed by the Government. The line serves a wide area of country extending into the Rangitikei district and while it is possible that several non-paying branch lines in the South Island may be closed, there is no comparison between such lines and the Foxton-Palmerston branch in regard to the volume of traffic. It only requires a revision of the freights tariff, backed by increased shipping to the (port, to make this line not only self-supporting but revenue-producing.
