ELSIE WALKER CASE.
IMPORTANT STEP TAKEN BY CORONER. Auckland, August 10. Mr. F. Iv. Hunt, S.M., Cor suer at Auckland, who conducted the investigation into the death of Elsie Wafer and returned an open verdict, to-day took an important step by recommending'the re-opening of the inquest. Mr. Hunt said that this morning he had sent a letter to Mr. Meredith, Crown Prosecutor at Auckland, who led the evidence at the inquest on behalf of the police. In this he suggested to the Crown Prosecutor that either a prosecution for perjury should be instituted against one of the witnesses at the inquest, or that application should bo made to the Supreme Court for authority to ire-open the inquest, so that the evidence of Mrs. Margaret Thomason and her sister, Mrs. Langdon, might be taken. ENGLISH OPINIONS BEING SOUGHT. Dr. Murray, police surgeon at Auckland, who carried out examinations on the body of Elsie Walker and also gave lengthy evidence at the inquest, is at present in England on a long vacation. It will be remembered that after the police inquiry, which followed the inquest, Dr. Murray resigned his position- as police surgeon. It was ascertained to-day that Dr. Murray has taken to England with him full particulars of the injuries sustained by Elsie Walker, particularly concerning the bruise which he considered unusual. About this Dr. Murray will hold a discussion with eminent pathologists in London, including Sir Bernard Spilsbury, Home Office pathologist and a world authority.
