WANDERING STOCK
COMPLAINT FROM LOCAL RESIDENT. Mr. R. Sorbie waited on the Borough 'Council at its meeting last night in reference to the wandering stock nuisance in the bofrough. “Your AA T o|i'ship,” he said, “I would like to know if the Council allows stock to wander on the borough roads!” Cr. Cowley: “You haven’t given them the freedom of the roads, have you, your Worship?” (laughter). Continuing, Mr. Sorbie said that he had suffered considerably from stock breaking down his fences and eating his crop of green oats as well as a bushel of oats and half a sack of chaff. Stock was on the road day and night. The Mayor said he would draw the ranger’s attention to -the matter. “There hasn’t been much stock iu the pound lately,” he said, “but my horse was there the other day!” Mr. Sorbie said it was costing him £4 a month for feed fob- bis horse and all lie wanted was a “fair spin.” Cr. Cowley: There is a law governing the matter. All you had to do was to impound the stock and charge up damages. The Mayor advised Mr. Sorbie to study the Impounding Act. A local resident had impounded some stock a few days ago and obtained £1 damages in connection ' therewith. He appreciated Mr. Sorbie’s action in reporting the nuisance and he would see. to it that the ranger received an official note to attend to the matter.
