THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMAUSSTONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 10th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: —
Hemp.—Manila better tone and malrket firmer. Business has been done on the basis of “J” grade £39 for August-October shipment. Output, Ist January to 31st July, 965,000 bales against 781,000 for same period last year. Stocks in Manila at the 31st July 187,000 against 127,000 bales at the same time last year. English 13,000 against 24,500 hales.
Sisal. —Maiket quiet hut firm at last ouotations.
New Zealand. —Market stronger and more active. Business restricted as sellers not offering. Comparative closing values are: High points £34 10/-, fair £3l 10/-, common £3O. Tow 2nd grade £22, 3rd grade £l7 15/- for August-October shipment.
