LAST SEASON’S OPERATION'S IN HOEOWHENUA DISTRICT. In the repojrt. of the Wellington Acclimatisation 'Society for the year ended -March 31st, 1929, the following statement from the Levin sub-committee appears:— “The deer-stalking season has been a very good one, although no outstanding heads were secured. About 20 heads were secured, of which Air. N. Whyte’s lb-pointer, and Air. Dick’s 14-pointer were the best, both very fine specimens. “The game season opened in fine weather: fair hags of ducks were taken throughout the district. Hares are not plentiful; pheasants are gradually increasing and several sportsmen obtained good spoilt; quail are to be seen in fair numbers on the east side near Horowbenua Lake. Game licenses were taken out as follows: Levin, 76; Shannon, 15; Otald, 21; Alanakau, 6; Ohau, 13; Paraparauimu, 12. total, 143. “The fishing season has been very good. The Oban has been better than for years and many fine catches were made. The Otaki River fished well. “The Committee thanks the Council for the liberal supply of pheasants, trout fry and yearlings.” —Chironicle.
