PLEA FOR RE-INSTATEMENT AS MAGISTRATE.
MR. P. L. HOLDINGS PETITIONS PARLIAMENT. Reinstatement as a stipendiary magistrate is sought in a petition presented to the House of Representatives last week fey Mr. H. M. Rush-worth (Bay of Islands) on feehalf of Air. P. L. Holldngs, of Russell. Petitioner states that he was appointed a magistrate by the National Government in 1919. In 1922 his health broke down temporarily, as the result of overwork, and he was advised by Mr, E. P. Lee, then Alinister of Justice, to take a long rest. At the suggestion of Air. Lee, petitioner said, he tendered his resignation, on the Understanding that when his health recovered he would be reinstated. After six months' rest he fully recovered, and applied for reinstatement. He was advised that his application would be considered when a vacancy occurred, but his claim was ignored when several vacancies did occur. Petitioner said he was now 57, and well below the retiring age. He had applied to the Alinister of Justice, the Hon. T. AI. Wilford, who originally appointed him, but without assigning any reason -the Alinister had refused his application, although several new appointments had been made by him.
