PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL AIEETING. The annual congregational meeting of the Poston Presbyterian Church was held last, evennig. The Rev. G. T. Brown, M.A. of St. Andrew’s, Palmerston N., (Moderator), (presided. There was a large attendance of members and adherents. The reports of the Session, P.W.M.U., Ladies’ Social Guild, and Sabbath School showed that the church was in a prosperous condition. The report of the Managers’ 'Committee emphasized the need of cati’eful Iconsideration of the financial position and pointed out that ten Presbyterian families had left the district during the past year. Spelcial mention was made of the loyal support of members which it was hoped would continue even to a greater degjree owing to rejmovals. On the motion of Mr. Barron seconded by Mr. ITaydock, the. reports we/re adopted. The balance-sheet was submitted and on the motion of Mr. John' Ross seconded by Mr. Barron, was adopted. 'The chairman reviewing the re ports and balance-sheet said lie was very pleased with the work done by the Foxton congregation. He recognized they were in a peculiar position and certain old debts had to be amet which hindered their financial progress, but they had met the mat-, ter in a fine spirit. He said their average giving per family was a high one. He also commended the work of the minister and his wife, both of whom had rendered faithful and devoted service and had won the love and esteem of the congregation. Dealing with finance, he suggested that the envelope or sustentation system of regular giving should be taken up by every family connected with the church. 'Considerable discussion took plaice on the future policy of the church, Messrs A. F. (Stevenson, Balrron, Ross, fR. Speirs, Airs. J. Ross and others speaking, and finally it was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr. John Ross seconded by Mr. Barron, to continue as at present until the end of the minister’s term in March, 1930, when, if necessary, the position will he reviewed.
Mr. Barron moved a hearty vote of thanks and (appreciation to Rev. and Ah'S. Nicholas fofr their work during the past year which was seconded by AH. Thomson and carried by acclamation. Votes .of thanks were also (accorded to all who had assisted in other branches of church activities. A vote of thanks was accorded Rev. G. T. and Airs. Brown for their presence. The meeting closed with the singing of the Doxology. Apologies were received from several absent members including Messrs J. K. Hornblow, Satherley and Nicol (Oroua Downs). At the conclusion of the meeting those plresent ivere entertained at supper by the ladies of the congregation.
