* M!R. STERLING’S POLICY. Auckland, July 10. Every phase of 'the railway working was discussed at the Australian and New Zealand Railway Conference in Adelaide, which was attended by Mr. 11. H. Sterling, manager of New Zealand Railways, who returned by the Ulimaroa today. He said that motor competition received full consideration, but be could not state the decision of the conference, as it had to be submitted to the Government. His policy had never been one of '(fighting motor but one that, would woitk in with that type of transport. The position in Australia was much tihe same as in New Zealand . The conference disclosed that Australia was feeling tlve •competition keenly. It was generally irecognised that the cut-throat, competition of unregulated road services, which was the outcome of greater activity in road improvements, was undesirable.
