PASSING OF A WELL-KNOWN MAORI.
WIREMU EPARAIMA—AGED 59. The sudden death took plaice, following a heart seizure, on Tuesday afternoon at his residence, Foxton Beach, of Wjiremu Eparaiina, aged 59 years. The deceased was born at Papakari at a pah situated on the banks of the Manawatu river at Moutoa. He was a rangitira of the Ngate-Turanga, a sub-tribe of the NgatiraukaWa. He married Aputa iKiwairau, only daughter of the w'ell-known Nga•diraulkawa chief Ihakaka. The only child of the issue died at an early age. In his younger-davs deceased Was a well-known athlete and boxer. In tire latter connection he was a pupil of the late Harry Laing. Deceased possessed a maim among a large following of Maoris in this district. He is survived by his widow. A tangi will be held at Poutu pah, near the Shannon bridge, where the interment will take place on Sunday next.
