CLEANING MAIN STREET

DAY ALTERED TO MONDAY. Cr. Cowley recommended at last night’s Council meeting that Main Street be cleaned every Monday instead of .Saturday. His reason for doing so was that he considered most of the rubbish accumjimilating in the main thoroughfare was deposited there On Saturday afternoon and evening and that as a result the town was dirty for the rest of the week. If the street was cleaned on Mondays it would be dean all the week. The Clerk said the chief reason for cleaning the Main 'Street on Saturdays was to make it presentable for visitors to the town on that day. Cr. Robinson favoured cleaning

the street tAvo days a week. He was opposed to altering the day to MondaA’ as during the summer months a large number .of visitors visited Foxton' 'over the Aveek-end. The Mayor considered a good deal of money Avas already being iipent in Main Street and did not famuli’ a twice weekly clean-up. After further discussion a. motion nioA'ed by Crs. |CoAA r ley and Barron that the Main Street ;be cleaned on Mondays Avas carried, Crs. Robinson, Roore and Ross voting against.
