STREET LIGHTING.
Cl'. .Robinson brought up the question of improved street lighting for Frances Street at last night’s Borough Council meeting. At present, he said,, the street was very badly lit and was dark and dangerous to pedestrians. He suggested that the light on Booth’s bill be shifted to the corner of Frances Street.
Cr. Barron said the light on Booth’s hill was placed there so that it lit up both sides of the hill. It would not be advisable to shift the light fromj its present location. |Gr. Robinson said the light in Putrcell Street could be shitted to the western corner and this would light up the south end of Johnston Street and miUkie at possible to remove the light from Booth’s Hill. 'The IC'lerk said the shifting of the Purcell Street light would leave Purcell Street in darkness and he did not think they could do that. Cr. Cowley said there was a light at the top end of Union Street which could be shifted to Francis Street. The Mayor said the light in that location was placed to indicate a bad bend in the road. The Clerk said that the Council would have to consider the ratepayers who lived in the vicinity of the Union Street light. They received no other conveniences and were ratepayers just the same as other residents nearer the town. It was decided to refe(r 'the matter to the Wlorks Comjmittee.
