SITE FOR NEW PLUNKET ROOM.
At last night’s Borough Council meeting a letter was received from the local branch of the Plunket Society, thanking the Council for its offer of two suitable, sites on which the new Plunket- Room could •be erected but stating that the Society was not deciding on a section until it was definitely known whether portion of the Bowling Club’s property would be available >as a site.
The Mayor said that the 'Council had received a deputation frojm the Society at its last meeting, asking for a site on which to erelct the building. The Council had decided to offer portion of the Bowling Club section if the (Bowling Club was agreeable. The 'Society was evidently now considering building and desired to know definitely whether they could haye the Bowling Club ■site. The Bowling 'Club should be approached for its sanction in the matter.
Cr. Cowley: Is it a matter for us or the Society to make the request? The Mayor: The Council could ask the Club’s permission. The Society is doing good work in the town and should receive every encouragement. Cr. Barron: There was no choice about the offer made to the Society. 'They had but one section to decide ion. It was decided that it was the Plunfeet Society’s business to approach the Bowling Club for permission to erect their building on portion of the Bonding green section, and discussion on the matter lapsed.
