HEATERS FOR FOXTONPALMERSTON NORTH TRAIN.

* SUGGESTION FROM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. At Thursday evening’s meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, Mr. D. R. Balrron brought, up the question of making representations to the Railway Department to instal- heaters in the carriages of the Fox ton-Palmers ton North trains during the winter months. Mr. Barron mentioned that the 'matter had been brought under his notice iby a lady passenger who made frequent use of the train. r Mjr. J. Martin (stationmaster) said that he had placed the matter before the Department’s business agent only a few days' ago and had a letter drafted out at present to be forwarded on to headquarters. The great difficulty would be that thetre was no means of heating the heaters up locally and considerable expenses would 'be entailed in doing so. The cost would be prohibitive in fact. In his opinion the only way to overcome the difficulty would be to place steam-heated carriages on the line. It was decided to leave the matter in Mr. Martin’s hands.
