MOASCAR CUP MATCH. TE AUTE DEFEATED BY PALMERSTON’S HIGH SCHOOL. After holding the Moascar Cup since 1924 Te Ante College yesterday Tost possession of the famous secondary school trophy to Palmerston North Boys’ High School. The game was played at the Winter Show in Palmerston North and owing to a sporting offer on the part of Te Aute the cup was at stake. A crowd of upwards of 8000 people watched the cup holders get beaten by 8 points to 3 after a good game played on heavy ground with a greasy ball. Te Aute had a big advantage in weight, their average giving them 121 b. a man fore and aft. They played the first spell with a wind of almost gale force behind them, but could not raise a -margin of more than three points to nil at halftime. ’ High School fought a dogged defensive game and by holding the score down, gave themselves an opportunity in the second spell, and after the change over they attacked strongly, and besides registering two crossings, had the better of matters all round. Te Ante drew first blood halfway through the opening spell when the back line handled attractively for Tuhiwai to complete with a strong run in which he shook off two defenders. The kick failed. High School went to the attack, early and gave an indication that they intended to make the -most of the wind. The first try came from an attractive rearguard movement very similar to that which gave Te Aute points. Penman crossed, but Millar missed an easy kic^k. With the -scores even Te Aute made a strong bid to turn even the balance of the scales, but the School defence was too sound. The challengers came back and laid vigorous siege to the Te Aute citadel. The efforts culminated when Bradley cut in brilliantly to complete a rearguard movement beside the posts. Anderson ' converted and •time found the scores unchanged. Palmerston North B.H.S. B—Te8 —Te Aute College 3.
