The Hon. [F’onbes (Minister of Lands) passed through Fox ton at ■midday to-day. The Miriistrial party lunched at Whyte’s Hotel. The death is announced in a Press telegram form Wellington, of Mr. Joseph Orchiston, late Chief Telegraph Engineer; aged 73. Mr. T. H. M'Williams, wireless operator of the monoplane Southern Cross, left Auckland for Sydney by the Steamer Ulimaroa on Friday to rejoin Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith. Mr. M. E. Perrea.u attended the Manawatu A. and P. Association’s show on Tuesday for the puipose ot judging cookery classes. A well-known settler of Glen Oroua, in the person of Mrs. Carroll, passed away this week. Deceased ' was a native of Cork, Ireland. She came to New Zealand with her husband in the sailing ship, Earl of Zetland, 54 years ago. Mrs. Carrol reared a family of nine sons, most of whom are well known throughout New Zealand owing to their activities in the field of sport, two or them being New Zealand representative footballers and one a New Zealand champion runner. Mrs. Carrol was predeceased by her husband, who died a few months ago, also by four sons, John, William, Vincent and Joseph. There are five sons left to mlourn their loss —Thomas (Christchurch), Robert (Napier), Michael (Frankton), Francis and Alphonsus (Glen Oroua).
