FOXTON-SHANNON ROAD.

HIGHWAYS BOARD' REFUSES TO ASSIST WITH STOP BANKS. Notification that the Main Highways Board could not make any subsidy available towards the cost of constructing stop-banks and the raising of the Foxton-Shannon Road, as requested recently, was received at Monday’s meeting of the Afa.nawa.tu County Council. Commenting on the matter, the chairman (Cr. Barber) said it looked. as if the Main Highways Board were shirking their responsibilities. This work was badly needed for, when flood water from the Manawatu River came over the bank, the Whirokino Road was soon blocked for traffi|c. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman to pursue further.
