SHANNON ESTATE
OFFERED FOR SETTLEMENT. PURICiIEVSE BOARD INSPECTION An important offer has been made to the Land Purchase Board, which has been given; the option of securing for closer settlement the wellknown estate of Mr. Fred Bryant, at Shannon, states the Levin Chronicle. The block comprises 800 acres mostly adjoining the borough on the western side and partly lying within the borough. Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., who inspected the property and interviewed the purchase officer with regard to it, is of opinion that, provided the country could be kept clear of floods, it would be an ideal place for small holdings . It' has now to be examined by an officer of the Purchase Board.
A good proportion of the estate is cleared and grassed. The whole is fenced into reasonably slmall paddocks, ready for selection; and there are four cottages on the property. The present uses of the land are the fattening of stock and the running of a small dairy herd; but it should support something like ten families. The property is in the Buckley. Drainage Board’s district, is well hanked, and looks as if it could he effectively -protected from outside flooding, while interior drainage could he effected by .an electric pump.
