THE LATE MRS. HOOD.
The late Airs. Hood, whose death was recorded this week, was box'll at Stoke, Newington, England, on June 27th, 1850, her maiden name being A. M. Kippist. Deceased lived with her parents until 1871 when she married the late Charles Hood and together they left England in the sailing ship Golden Sea on the 22nd January for New Zealand, arriving at Quarantine Island on May Ist of the same year after a very rough voyage of 100 days. M'r. and Mrs. Hood took up their residence in Foxton shortly after their’arrival in the Dominion coming to these parts in the s.s. Alanawatn with the late Air. A. J. Whyte and others. Making their home in Foxton, the late Mr. Hood found employment for many years with the New Zealand Railways. After a number of years in Foxton Air. Hood was transferred to Oroua Bridge (now known as Rangiotii), which was a very rough place forty years ago, and well noted for its floods and mosquitoes. After remaining there for ten years ADr. and Mrs. Hood returned to Foxton and took up their residence in Avenue Road, where the late Airs. Hood resided until December 7th, 1927, whfflh after a severe illness shenvas removed to her son’s residence at Koputaroa where she remained until her death last week. Deceased leaves a niece, Airs. Gregory (Alarton) and son (Air. Clms. IT. Hood, of Koputaroa) to mourn their loss.
