Constable J. V. Bell has returned to Fox ton frolm relieving duty in Shannon. Captain J. Henry, Inspector S.P.C.A., Wellington, was in Foxton on Monday in connection with the work of the Society. It is not generally known that a descendant of Captain Cook is living in New Zealand, says the “Otago Daily Times.” She is Mrs. E. Beniams, of Christchurch, a great-granddaughter of the famous explorer. The death 'took place at Koputaroa yesterday of Mrs. A. M. Hood, relict of the late Mr. C. Hood, aged 79 years. The deceased was an old and respected resident of Foxton and only recently took up her residence with her son, Mr. C. Hood, of Koputaroa.
