RABBIT POISONING.

A discussion ensued at Thursday’s meeting of the Manawatu Rabbit Board on the various methods of poisoning rabbits. The inspector (Mr. D. R. Barron) said the pollard poison the Board was using at present was some of the (best he had ever used. It had been procured from, the Government and was used with excellent results on the islands in the Rangitikei River .where the kills had been particularly heavy. The pollard had ibeen particularly potent and in many cases rabbits had been picked up dead in the furrows. Care should ibe taken not to place the poison in or near burrows as rabbits were always very chary about taking it in such localities. The best results were obtained when the poison was laid in the “play-grounds” or in the grassy feeding- gullies. The inspector also stated that one rabbiter in the Hhnatangi district had a method of poisoning different froim the usual methods. He mad© no “scrapes” when laying the poison and was experiencing good kills. Good kills -were also being obtained off a property which had recently been burned off, the rabbits not being seared by the burn. The Board expressed satisfaction at the good results obtained by the pollard poison in the Rangiti!k©i River ibed.
