PLUNKET CARNIVAL EFFORT.

CLOSES TO-MORROW. The Plunlket Carnival effort which has been running for the past five weeks, will close to-morrow when it is anticipated that a sum of between £3OO and £4OO will be raised for the purpose of building permanent rooms for the local branch. The colmmittees associated with the various baby candidates have worked splendidly and, indeed, to some the carnival has been a strenuous and self-sacrificing task. Dances, house and garden parties, concerts, shop days, etc., etc., have been kept going regularly throughout the to wn and district, each of which has entailed considerable personal effort find all have been fairly well patronised. That the carnival has been able to succeed at all, coming as it did on top of a period of depression, is all the more creditable to the committees. When the total funds are ascertained the next step for the executive to decide will Ibe to endorse the action of the sports committee re the courthouse site and to decide upon the design of a suitable building, which will have to be submitted to the Minister for Justice before his final decision is given for its erection on the site mentioned.
