SATURDAY’S RESULTS. SENIOR. Shannon 17 v. Weraroa 3. Foxton won !by default from Wanderers. JUNIOR. Shannon 23 v. Weraroa 9. Foxton 20 v. Wanderers 8. THIRDS. To'komaru 13 v. Shannon 0. The Horowhenna Rugby season opened on Saturday when competition gabies were played throughout the district. Added interest is being evinced in the senior competition this year as a result of the presentation of a cup by Mr. W. McLennan, of Levin. The first match for this trophy was, played on Saturday when Shannon defeated Weraroa and became the first holders of the trophy. Mr. Sands refereed the game, which was fairly even until the closing stages. At half time Shannon .were leading by 6 points to 3. The final score, however, was Shannon 17, Weraroa 3. 'Picard, and Goodwin, two Junior players were found in the ranks of the Shannon team on Saturday and both acquitted themselves well. Wanderers were picked to meet the local Seniors on Easton Park on Saturday but they were un'aible to get a team together and defaulted.

All players are requested to be at the practice sheds Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. JUNIORS’ FIRST CUP MATCH. Foxton juniors played their first cup match on Saturday against Wanderers, at Weraroa. They won fairly easily by 20 to 8. The first spell was evenly eattested, A. Winiata drawing first blood with a good penalty goal, Foxton replying just on half time with a good try by Thompson, to which Robinson added the major points. Half time sounded with the scores Foxton s—Wanderers 3. Foxton had sole control in the second spell, Thompson (2), Smith, Hartley and Robinson scoring tries, none of which were converted. As the result of Wanderers’ only rally, Jones scored, and Winiata ccnver-. ted the try. The final whistle the yellows victors toy 20 to 8. Mr. Henri refereed.
