FOXTON PLUNKET SOCIETY.
MONTHLY MEETING,
The monthly meeting of the Paxton Plunket Society was held yesterday afternoon," presided over by Mrs F. Robinson. Also present were Mesdames Christie, W. Trueman, Procter, A. Ross, J. Ogi'lvy, Adams, Baker, W. Walton, Bergin, G. F. Smith and (Barron (hon. secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mrs W. Smith. Mrs Ban- tendered her resignation, which was received with regret and Mys Martin was welcomed as a new member. The nurse’s report was as follows: —Visits to Foxton: four, to homes 12; adults to office, 59; babies 45; older children 22j a total of 126. Receipts from Mr Corn’s weighing machine amounted to 8/-. Mrs F. -Robinson w'as appointed visitor and flower steward for April. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting followed the above and was attended by Mr Christie of the advisory committee. Apologies were received from Mrs Perreau and Messrs Perreau and Truem!an. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report was submitted as follows: —
“Your committee has much pleasure in presenting their seventh annual report and statement of accounts for the year ending 31st March, 1929. During the past year the work has steadily continued, the following figures giving an indication of the year’s work. Previous year’s figures are given in parenthesis: —Visits by Nurse to office 53 (53); to homes 83 (130); adults to office 964 (1,076); babies and older children tp office 1,257 (1,457). Totals: 2,383 (2,533), showing-a decrease of 246. Of the new cases, 19 were naturally fed and 11 artificially. The committee wishes to place on record the services rendered to the Society by Nurse Fairweather, who resigned at the end of last year. Her place has been taken by Nurse Lockwood, who is .deservedly popular amongst the mothers. The increase in the sales of ejinulsion indicates that 'the mothers realise the benefit of keeping in regular touch with the nurse and in carrying out her instructions. The receipts of emulsion this season amounted to £32 3/10 as compared with £l9 4/4 last year. The Advisory Board consisting of Messrs . Trueman and Christie, still continue to show practical interest in the Society and have been very helpful in connection with the proposed neiw Plunket Rooms. At present ia Baby Queen Carnival is being held in Foxton 'in order to raise funds for building new rooms which we hope will shortly be an accomplished fact. The subscriptions from hon. members show a slight falling off for the year, which is to be regretted. The usual system of raising funds for the year’s working expenses in the past has been by means of the group system, but your Committee considered that as" it was intended to hold a baby queen carnival a't the end of the financial year, it would be calling on the public too often were the group system carried out as well. It is therefore, owing to this, thalt our revenue is scmielwhat less than it was last year. During the year the Society lost the services of Mesdames C. Pearson and Yeo. Mrs Pearson was one of our foundation members and for some time was a vice-president and 'the Society desires to place on record its appreciation of the splendid services rendered by her to the Society. Mr Corn’s weighing machine, the proceeds of which are donated to the Society, has again proved a regular source of income, realising the amount of £3 5/ll£. Contributions to office box show a slight increase for the year, the sum of £6 8/10 being .received for 1929 as against £6 5/5i for 1928. Your committee wish to thank the Advisory Board for its advice, Messrs Madge Bros, for free conveyance for the Nurse, Mrs W. Kirkland for lunches for Nurse, Mrs J. Walls and Mrs F. G. Fairey, for morning and afternoon tea; Mr 11. Osborne, free carting; Mr Corn, for gviing proceeds of weighing machine, Mr Trueman for auditing and the “Herald.” ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: — Patroness: Mrs J. Linklafer; President: Mrs F.’Robinson; vice-pre-sidents: Mesdames Christie, Trueman and Procter; committee: re-, elected. with the addition of Mesdames Afartin and Bainj hon. secI’etary: Mrs D. R. Barron. The following honorary members were elected: Mesdaim.es H. Reid, C. Robinson, Hensky, Scott, Arcus and Messrs Hewett and Heyes. It was decided to open an account with the Bank of N.Z. The meeting closed with the usual votes of thanks to all who had assisted in any way during the year and to the President for her Continued services.
