COUNTY ENGINEER.
MR. BOND’S APPOINTMENT CONFIRMED.
The appointment of Mr H. VBond as engineer to the ManalwaJtu County Council Was confirmed at Tuesday’s meeting of the Council In moving that Mi 1 Bond be appointed chief executive officer of the engineer’s department of the Council, the chainmhn (Cr. W. E. Baiber) said that Mr Bond had been acting-engineer to the County for more than a year 1 and previous to that he had had seven months’ duty as County overseer. Mi 1 Bond’s probationary period had been particularly onerous as he had come to the service of the Council at a time when the roads were rapidly giving Way before the heavy traffic demands upon them. He had plunged into his .work with vigour, and dur-. ing the past twelve months lie had pushed ahead steadily .with the County’s roading programme, and the chahtm'an ,was glad to be able to say that if something like the saime amount. of Work were done this year the Council would be able to rest on its oars. In appointing Mr Bond as engineer, Or. B'arber felt sure that they were securing the services of an efficient and conscientious official and one who would protect and further their interests. The motion of appointment was seconded by Or. Hunt and other •members of the Council also spoke in support iof the motion. Mr Bond later thanked the Council for the honour conferred upon him.
