HIGHWAYS BOARD.

VISITING MANAWATU COUNTY.

Information was received at Tuesday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council that members of the Main Highways Board would arrive at the county offllce at Sanson at 4.30 pan. on Friday next. The visit is being made with the object of allowing local body officials to place any important questions directly before the hoard. The chairman (Or. W. E. Barber) said there were at least two important matters that the Manawatu County Council could bring forward and they were (1) The SansonHimatangi Road subsidy; (2) the question of assistance towards the banking of the Manawatu River from Walden’s Corner at Marotiri to Shannon for the purpose of protecting Moutoa. In regard to the banking of the river, the speaker went on to explain to the Council the impossibility of individual settlers building banks with sufficient base to conform to the Public Works Department’s specifications, and the Council agreed that assistance should be forthcoming. The Highways Board Was interested in the main highway which ran through Moutoa and this raad was always affected in flood tiime. In reply to Cr. Boyce the chairman said that it was not likely that the Manawatu-Oroua River Board would oppose the work because a bank would be erected) and in any ease Cr. Barber, thought that tho Highways Board would have something to say on the matter. “Personally, I’d like to see the Manawatu-Oroua River Board get going with their big scheme and see if they could not get something done,” observed Cr. Boyce. 'Referring to the visit pf the Board members again, the chairman said he had been invited by the Foxton Borough Council to meet the Board at Foxton when that 'Council had certain matters in regard to the borough boundaries to lay before them. After the conference at Foxton the chairman proposed to come on to Sandon with the Board. Following l a brief discussion it was decided that each Councillor should make an endeavour to attend the meeting.
