FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING

The ordinary monthly and last meeting of the present Council, was held last, evening, presided over by the Mayor (Mr M. E- Perreau). Also present were Crs. J. Ross, C. A. Spring, S. E. Cowley, F. Lucinsky, C. Rand, E. Parkin, M. H. Walker, R. ,J. Thompson and the Town Clerk (Mr Win. Trueman). An apology for absence was received from Cr. R. Rangiheuea. WATERWORKS REPORT. The Wat ei'works foreman (Mr W. Neville) reported as follows: —During tihe month one water service was laid, two house drains cleaned, stock taking canned out, meter reading attended to, parking notices erected in Main St, and general maintenance work carried out, 1,758,000 gallons of water was pumped. Cr. Walker said the parking notices in Main St. had been a great ■success. The Mayor said he had been complimented (by several people on the scheme and (Cr. Ross said that the car oiwnersi appeared to bo very satisfied with the innovation. The report was adopted. ROAD FOREMAN'S REPORT. The road foreman (Mr G. A. Huntley) reported that during the month the road stall had been engaged in screening sand for asphalt work, top-dressing footpaths in the Lady's Mile and Duncan St., patching /Hits Fn'tter, Russell and Robinson Sts., grading Purcell and Union Sts. and Avenue Rd. and No. 6 Line. Tlhc footpath in Lady’s Mile is now completed and Duncan St. path will he finished early in the week. A double Coating of tar, chips and sand lias been given to nearly the whole length of these paths. The remainder of the tar available will be used on the intersection.

Cr Spring said that it was time the drains were being attended to. In his opinion too much attention was being paid to the footpaths. The report was adopted. TREE PLANTING. On the suggestion of the Mayer if was decided;to plant 1000 maiteroeaiipa trees this season, the location and time of planting to be left to the Reserves ‘Committee. TOWN CLERK’S REPORT. The Town Clerk read a lengthy report on the working of the Council during the last two years, which will be published in detail in our next issue. Mr Trueman was congratulated on his interesting and comprehensive report. GENERAL. It was decided to approve of the estimates prepared. A good deal of routine business was transacted and valedictory speeches made by the Mayor and Councillors.
