MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS EXCHANGE (COMPLIMENTS.

At the conclusion of business at last night’s Borough Council meeting, the Mayor (Mi- M. E. Perreau) thanked the Councillors for title courtesy they had shown him duringl his term of office, and for the assistance they had alt iall times rendered him. They had been a happy family and had got on well together. The Council had done good work during its tern of office and bad done what they could. Had they had more money at their disposal they could possibly have done more york, but their activities had been governed to a large extent by the financial position. They had now reached the end of their term of office and 'Could go to the electors with an easy mind and a feeling that they had done their duty. He hoped that the electors would again show their renewed confidence in the Councillors and return those to office who -were seeking re-election. iCr. M. H. Walker, as Deputy Mayor and 'Senior .Councillor 'thanked the Mayor for the courtesy he had always shown to the Councillors. He congratulated him on the able manner in which he had conduhted the affairs of the Council. All the Councillors present endorsed Cr. Walker’s remarks and it was the unanimous wish of the Council that Mr Perreau should seek re-election as Mayor and his nomination paper was signed forthwith by those present. Mr Perreau consented to again stand for the Mayoralty and thanked those present for their kindly references.

Crs. J. Ross and S. E. Cowley were the only Councillors who definitely stated that they, would seek re-election hut the remainder, with the exception of Cr. Parkin, who has definitely stated that he will not stand, took nomination papers avay and will consider the matter.
